This is where we get together on- or offline to get your wishes straight. Message and audience are at the forefront while restrictions dictate how we will approach the project.
There is no film without a script, no story in a nutshell if we can’t get your story straight. Every step from here is built on the script, so it better be good. Mutant Worm is here to steer or tackle that phase in the process. Consider that 120 to 140 words equal about one minute.
Voice over and music dictate the timing and the ambience so they come first. This is also the phase where the length gets most clear. When also adding sound design it can resemble a radio play. Music can be temp until custom music is made.
This can be really basic or more elaborate depending on time and budget. The script usually has descriptions for what’s on screen along with ideas on the look, so this is sometimes even skipped. I place the storyboard on a timed audio track so it’s like a lively preview.
Can be as elaborate as time allows. Since it is about bringing the story to life, the more time spent here the better.
Sound makes over 50% of a film. Your viewer needs it. Do not make it be boring.
While there are feedback points along the way, it’s always wise to consider small final adjustments that dot the I. Like glitches that got missed, typo’s in source material, that final bit of timing, and adding subtitles.
The above steps are usually more organic and interconnected than this guideline presupposes but it gets us here, where it’s time to hand over the final result to be released into the wild. So take good care of it. This is where you apply every useful platform to spread your story and message.
