My name is Frank Boxman. I’m a filmmaker/animator based in Groningen, The Netherlands, where I live with my family. Known as Mutant Worm I’ve been making films since 1998, when I was still finishing my MA in English at the University of Groningen.
My passion lies in crafting memorable stories, mainly through animation, often turning complex subjects into clear, fun and concise short video stories. This resulted in over 100 explainer videos/explanimations but also in personal projects, like the short film Litterbug. With the right branding logo, a story sometimes even fits into a logo animation.
While my focus is on animations, visual effects is another skill, and I occasionally do these for clients but mostly for local films, which keeps me connected with my community.
Interactive media is another a cool storytelling medium. This is still an outlier but it’s really satisfying to create interactive and immersive experiences with my coding friends.
Although my skills allow me to make an animated film independently from concept to realization, I have a network of creative professionals when a larger crew is needed.
I have a selection of my work on this website, but you can also have fun exploring my YouTube Channel!

Well, it just stuck.
It all started in 1998 when me and some friends from the USVA Video Collective in Groningen made this claymation starring a semi-upright worm with a hat, a scarf and a moustache: Mier en Worm Go West
The 1st Mutant Worm production.
